Who is Your Inner Goddess & Why Do You Want to Free Her?

Yes, you are a goddess! If you are a woman on this earth, you are a goddess. You always will be and always have been. We have just been taught and shown that we are anything but.

Your goddess self has been in hiding. She’s been sold the idea that to be herself is not okay. For if she is really, truly herself, others might reject her. She must be what others expect, what will keep the peace. To come out of hiding, especially if she’s been kept away for many lifetimes, may feel even dangerous.

As a middle-aged woman who’s kept her goddess hidden away, chains locked, all in the safety of “good girl”, I can tell you it is so worth it to free her.

I’m not talking about the fair, meek and princess type of goddess whose sole purpose is to get the attention of a man that is portrayed in the media. Instead, this goddess I’m referring to is fiercely loving, boldly living, unabashedly herself, unapologetically truthful, and wise beyond any books or degree.

And she is in you…somewhere!

I realize the word “goddess” might make you cringe. It has not been part of our mainstream vocabulary living in a patriarchy as we do with the masculine nature most dominating the world and the feminine repressed, suppressed and dismissed. The media has not helped by flipping it into something dainty and focusing on how a woman looks.

We are more and more returning the feminine nature back into balance with the masculine which means goddess will become a more common and appropriately used term.

For me, and I’m guessing many of you women out there, I kept my goddess self trapped and locked away for the first half of my life trying my darnest to be the “good girl”.

I was raised as a good Catholic girl. It was ingrained in me at an early age and as a sensitive and shy child, I took this expectation to be a good girl seriously. In fact, every time I left my house I’d get a “be a good girl” reminder like a kiss goodbye. It was guaranteed. Everyone meant well, but it left me suffocating to say the least!

You know the good girl…

She keeps herself small, compressed, and conforming.

She acts and speaks nice and pleasing on the outside but inside she may be bitter and seething.

Perfection is her thing.

She feels not enough…not pretty enough, not smart enough, not good enough.

She’s scared to take risks for fear of messing up.

She’s afraid to speak up for fear of offending.

She must take care of everyone else before she can even think about tending to herself and fulfilling her own dreams.

Perhaps, she’s even launched her own loved ones out into the world and now is left with no idea what her dreams even are.

And the last thing she could be is HERSELF.

This way of being is stifling and just not cutting it anymore! It’s time to stop hiding and break free! I’ve told myself all the excuses of why I should stay in my box where I belong, where I feel safe and a little too comfortable. It’s been really cozy in there but it’s getting more painful to stay in the box than to risk breaking free.

Enough is enough. The world needs us and it’s as simple as being ourselves. Mother Earth is shouting! Our children are crying out! We are all hurting by being anything other than ourselves.

Hiding your true self is not only hurting you, it’s hurting the planet and those you love.

Not being the most real you is like a beautiful rose trying to be a daisy just to fit in or even a daisy trying to be a rose. We need the daisy just as much as the rose. They each serve a unique purpose.

Your goddess self is…simply YOU…incredible, unique, amazing you, with all your imperfections, shortcomings and flaws and not ashamed to show it. She is wise, authentic, confident, radiant, intuitive, and uses these superpowers for the good of all.

Once your inner goddess is free, you’re most likely to…

Honor your desires and dream big

Claim your needs and set clear boundaries

Feel your feelings as they arise and learn from them

Trust your intuition and follow through on your nudges

Live in your power and speak your truth

Believe in your worth without apology

Go for what you want with love and not force

And shine your light brightly right along all the other twinkling stars.

To shift from the good girl box I lived my whole life in, to goddess, is no small feat. And to be honest, in my quest to free her I have occasionally swung to the opposite extreme, nothing major, but enough to make me question what on earth I was doing this for.

To find a middle ground I’m holding myself to the quote by Emma Mildon from her book, Evolution of Goddess, “Be bold, bright, and beautiful without being a bitch about it. Remember, you can be a Goddess-badass with love, gratitude, humbleness and grace.”

Free your inner goddess and your soul will be singing its truths for all ages.
